We joined some friends at their neighborhood bbq/picnic and we had a blast. It was Miss Addison’s big social outing and we were excited to be there with her! Watching the sun set over the marsh and marina was just gorgeous. We continuously count our blessings to be able to enjoy the view so often.
We started the day with a goodbye from Lolli who had come to visit this weekend! We were glad to have her visit and sad to see her go! Then, we dressed in head to toe green and headed to the Cathedral! Grand Daddy Pat had built a beautiful cross in memory of Uncle Mike and it was being blessed by Monsignor O’Neill! Next up, the Celtic Cross Mass to kick up the St. Patrick’s Day Festivities this week! What a great way to spend his 3 month birthday – celebrating his Irish heritage!
Rhett just loves having his Gigi here during the week to visit and help out Mommy! Gigi does all kinds of things to help out like sing, play and rock to sleep! She also does her favorite thing: Laundry! Mommy hates doing it so Daddy loves coming home to lots of clean clothes!
Thank you for all of your help Gigi!
Here are some of my favorite moments from the other day!
Loving my husband has found a whole new meaning. You think you have a wonderful marriage and unconditional love before children, but the birth of our son has created a new level of respect, companionship and loyalty. Teamwork has never been so important and it’s my husband’s giggles, jokes and laughter that brings a smile to my face, even in the most stressful times. It might be 3 am in the morning, but Patrick still manages to finds humor in the interesting noises coming from Rhett’s bottom half. We find ourselves laughing out loud and remembering that these are the good times-the memories we will share with Rhett as an adult. I find it so endearing to see my husband arrive home from work, rush over to Rhett and graze his cheek with a most tender of kisses. The brush of his beard always tickles his cheek and brings a bright-eyed smile across his face. He knows it’s his Daddy. Rhett has adopted the nickname “Little Mansky” (spelling?) from Patrick. Not sure exactly where this came from but it seems to fit. I love hearing Patrick call him that – it’s too cute. “Little Mansky….Mommy has nommy nommys for you!”, “What’s wrong Little Mansky?” – the list goes on. I know it must have been hard for Patrick to head back to work after spending a week at home cozied up with Mr. Rhett. Luckily, his work scheduled has allowed quite a few short days for him to head home early. I know he can’t wait until the days of baseball games, fishing in our back yard, going in the boat…but until then, we have snuggly time in the recliner, laying on daddy’s chest at bedtime and midnight dates in the nursery. We are cherishing these moments – we know they don’t last forever. We will be looking back one day saying “remember when” and I want to know that we took in every breath, moment and smile as much as possible.
Happy Birthday to Rhett! We are 1 week into the life of Rhett. The Man of the Hour. The Most Popular Boy on the Block. The Apple of our Eye. We did a little song and dance, flip video and iPhone pic at 6:10pm Sunday evening. It was hard to believe that a week has flown by in mere seconds. Rhett had arrived, we spent our first nights ever in a hospital, drove home bleary-eyed and terrified that we would wreck with the baby on board, visited with many friends and family and embarked upon the first year of Rhett. This sleeping machine loves eating, doesn’t love having his diaper changed and has become quite the expert in posing for photos. With mom being a photographer – he had no hope of avoiding the camera. I headed into my first official photo shoot with blanket and pacifier in hand. Here are the results – I believe he was meant for the camera!
’cause sometimes that mountain you’ve been climbing
is just a grain of sand
and what you’ve been up there searching for forever
is in your hands
when you figure out love is all that matters after all
it sure makes everything else seem so small.
It was Sunday morning – Patrick was headed to church solo while Rhett and I had a quiet morning to ourselves. It was only the second time I was alone with this new bundle of love so I was soaking up every second of it. We are lucky that our wonderful baby sleeps a lot – and by a lot, I mean all of the time except while he’s eating or we’re changing his tiny little diaper. During his morning slumber, I decided to hold him and just admire his little face – ever-changing of expressions and faces. I wish I knew what he was dreaming about – his dreams seem sad sometimes and happy others. I wish I could take away all of his bad dreams. I grabbed the remote and sifted through our week’s worth of recorded shows. On the top of the list was a Carrie Underwood concert so I quickly hit play. I just adore her and the great example she sets for young women. Not only is she inspiring as an artist, but as a spiritual person as well. She began to sing one of my favorites, “So Small”. Although I have heard this song multiple times before, it took on a new meaning that was unexpected. As I held this blessing of a child, I began to see how much it has changed me. As she sang the chorus, I couldn’t stop the tears from trickling down my face as I looked at Rhett. It is amazing how different the world looks and how many things don’t seem to matter anymore. I welcome this change and hope to live my new life understanding the true meaning of love. Unconditional Love. Amazed at how much I already love this child, the song summed up everything rushing through my head at that moment. Although my life has been successful and fulfilling, it is now complete. Patrick and I have a wonderful marriage and it wasn’t until the past year that we finally starting realizing something was missing. Something bigger than us. It was at that moment that we realized we wanted children. We are truly blessed to have this precious baby boy and “it sure makes everything else seem so small”.
We are so thrilled to announce the birth of our son, Rhett Patrick McCarthy. He was born Sunday, December 11th at 6:10pm. He weighed 8 lbs, 12 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. Our love for this new bundle of joy is beyond words and we think he’s absolute perfection. We are glad to be home and settled – enjoying every second of this new life with Rhett. My talented friend, Sarah Buck, was able to photography the delivery and all of our first moments together. Enjoy the photos!
