How many times can I say how lucky we are to live here! Yesterday, Rhett has his first trip to the beach and had the best of times. The weather was beautiful but the water was a little rough due to the wind. I was a little hesitant of the rough seas, but brave little Rhett went right to sleep. Guess it didn’t bother him as much as it did his momma. We headed out to a little island called Wassaw and met a few friends plus Gigi and GrandDaddy. We all anchored our boats and held down the fort for a few hours. With umbrella, beach tent, travel crib, blankets and oh yeah, plenty of sunscreen, we hit the beach with bells on. Fair little Rhett had to be lathered up with sunscreen – he does have two redheads for parents so needless to say, he will never be that super tan beach baby. He loved the wet sand between his toes and the small waves in which Gigi lifted him up to jump over each one. After a couple of fun hours, we hit the water back to the dock for a long deserved boat nap.
Rhett – we guessed you would probably love the water considering your lengthy time in the bath, but not only did you love it, you didn’t want to get out! EVER! Aunt Colleen came to visit and we took you to the neighborhood pool – boy, did you have a blast! You loved to push yourself off the ground in the pool, resulting in many attempts to dive forward into the water. Not time for that yet, Mr. We need to get a few swimming lessons under our belt before that milestone. We splished and we splashed around and then you took a big nap. Fresh air and sunshine never felt so good.
We can’t believe it’s been 4 months – 4 months of pure joy, unconditional love and a growing adoration of Rhett. Everyday brings a new memory, new lesson and a sense of what this motherhood thing is all about. Our sweet little baby is growing into a little boy in a flash it seems. He loves pushing himself up, finding new ranges to his vocal chords, chewing on everything in sight and staring lovingly at his mommy and daddy. His little swivel head is now following us across a room and his face completely lights up at the sound of our voice – brings such warmth to our hearts. Enjoy these little smiles as we celebrated his 4 month birthday.
Along with turning 3 months old, Rhett has grown to love a few things that seem to do the trick around here!
First up, the exercise ball! A MUST for soothing babies into a deep sleep! My cousin Kelly sent this to me – a mother of 3 knows all! This has saved the day many times – when nothing else worked – this did! Another perk – started working on getting those abs back into shape! For bath time, we have been loving the Johnson and Johnson’s lavender soothing baby line compliments of Rhett’s Aunt Colleen! The yummy and relaxing scent goes nicely with bed time! Also, we love the Kiehl’s Baby Lotion – make skin so soft! My friend Kathryn gave us a set of baby soap from Beekman – the bar soap allows for easy bath cleaning. Rhett is starting to understand music and colors! The iPhone is coming in handy while going on walks and playing on the floor. He loves the Baby Einstein app that displays bright colors and plays fun music. We also love the Baby Einstein Pandora station – not only does it play the coolest nursery music like Chicago and Aerosmith but Rhett especially loves it. Easy on Mommy and Daddy’s ears too! The owners of our favorite local jewelry store, Levy’s, sent the most precious gift for Rhett – a silver rattle with his name and birthdate. We put this handsome gift to use and Rhett loves shaking it around. It’s a good size and weight to help Rhett build up his throwing arm (per Patrick!). After many exhausting efforts in changing the crib sheet, my friend Sarah suggested the Ultimate Crib Sheet – boy, was I missing out! Because of the bumper, it’s pretty difficult to get the sheet off and on the mattress, so this clever find just snaps on top – making for easy change out. What a time saver! Lastly, baby massage! My cousin, Kelly, also sent me an instructional guide on techniques for baby! I’ve been trying out a few moves and it seems to really relax Rhett. What a lucky boy – when does mommy get a message I wonder? I’ll cash in a few shoulder rubs when he’s older!
We are so blessed to have so much love this Valentine’s Day! We hope you have this amount of happiness and joy in your life – hugs and kisses!
Rhett just loves having his Gigi here during the week to visit and help out Mommy! Gigi does all kinds of things to help out like sing, play and rock to sleep! She also does her favorite thing: Laundry! Mommy hates doing it so Daddy loves coming home to lots of clean clothes!
Thank you for all of your help Gigi!
Here are some of my favorite moments from the other day!
Lolli and Rhett played in the big bath tub this morning. I couldn’t resist capturing these sweet moments!
’cause sometimes that mountain you’ve been climbing
is just a grain of sand
and what you’ve been up there searching for forever
is in your hands
when you figure out love is all that matters after all
it sure makes everything else seem so small.
It was Sunday morning – Patrick was headed to church solo while Rhett and I had a quiet morning to ourselves. It was only the second time I was alone with this new bundle of love so I was soaking up every second of it. We are lucky that our wonderful baby sleeps a lot – and by a lot, I mean all of the time except while he’s eating or we’re changing his tiny little diaper. During his morning slumber, I decided to hold him and just admire his little face – ever-changing of expressions and faces. I wish I knew what he was dreaming about – his dreams seem sad sometimes and happy others. I wish I could take away all of his bad dreams. I grabbed the remote and sifted through our week’s worth of recorded shows. On the top of the list was a Carrie Underwood concert so I quickly hit play. I just adore her and the great example she sets for young women. Not only is she inspiring as an artist, but as a spiritual person as well. She began to sing one of my favorites, “So Small”. Although I have heard this song multiple times before, it took on a new meaning that was unexpected. As I held this blessing of a child, I began to see how much it has changed me. As she sang the chorus, I couldn’t stop the tears from trickling down my face as I looked at Rhett. It is amazing how different the world looks and how many things don’t seem to matter anymore. I welcome this change and hope to live my new life understanding the true meaning of love. Unconditional Love. Amazed at how much I already love this child, the song summed up everything rushing through my head at that moment. Although my life has been successful and fulfilling, it is now complete. Patrick and I have a wonderful marriage and it wasn’t until the past year that we finally starting realizing something was missing. Something bigger than us. It was at that moment that we realized we wanted children. We are truly blessed to have this precious baby boy and “it sure makes everything else seem so small”.
