Rhett and a Piano

To Rhett: This photo makes your momma smile. Little do you know, this piano belonged to your great grandmother, Lillian Breed, aka Nana to me. Nana purchased this piano to teach piano lessons when your Lolli was growing up. This was a way for her to make money for the family in addition to her oil painting. Lolli played on this piano and so did your mommy when I was little. Every visit up to Nana and Papa’s house, I would have mini lessons on that very same piano. Those became some of my most treasured memories as Nana and I played away on duets and eventually on the flute accompanying her. As Nana and Papa grew older, we had to move them into a smaller home. The piano went to Lolli’s house for a bit, then eventually was all mine to enjoy at Mommy and Daddy’s new house as newlyweds. We had the 70 year old piano complete renovated so that it would last years to come. We hope you enjoy playing it as much as Nana, Lolli and Mommy have. You’ll be the 4th generation to tap away at the keys and make beautiful music. No pressure at all – just kidding. You enjoy it as much as your little heart is content. Every single day, I wish Nana was around to meet you – I know she sees you everyday from heaven above.

1st time in the boat

First time in the boat Rhett! Lolli and Pop were able to be here to enjoy it with you! You weren’t too sure about your life jacket but you seem to have grown more comfortable with it these days. I don’t blame you, it doesn’t look like the most cozy jacket. We hopped in the boat to take a short ride over to Bonna Bella Marina for dinner. You were such a big boy and sat the table with us in your high chair. The Savannah sunset led us home for an enjoyable evening.

Protect me

Something about this photo just makes me smile. Protecting and being so careful with my little boy – speaks a thousand words.

Like Pop, Like Rhett.

It’s truly amazing how small we start out and how big we become. A true example in the hands and feet of my father, Pop. It’s the little moments like these I will cherish.

Rhett loves avocados…

Just like mommy! And Lolli helped him eat it! Dr. Ben gave us the go ahead to try solid food. In talking to my cousin, Kelly (a very successful mom of 3 boys), I decided to give avocado a try like her. Boy, did Rhett like it. I’m attempting to make my own baby food – again, driven by Kelly as example and bestie Brandy. Kelly sent the greatest book and Uncle Danny sent a fabulous cooking set. Much more on that later. We whipped up a fresh batch of pureed green yumminess and Rhett gobbled it right up. The only problem we had was he wasn’t getting it fast enough. Patience will come my son.

Hello Daddy

Both Patrick and I happen to have similar photos of our fathers holding us as babies. Of course, we wanted to capture this very same moment with Rhett. Sarah took the most precious photo of Patrick in the hospital – do believe we have a winner!

We will miss Lolli

Lolli came to visit and stayed all week! She was supposed to return to Dallas, Georgia yesterday, but with a little convincing, she stayed through today instead. I didn’t have to do a ton of convincing of course, she was excited to stay! I told her that I was so glad that she came this week instead of right after Rhett was born. For the first month, we had plenty of food from friends and family, lots of visitors and were still busy figuring things out! She had a short visit at Christmas, but I was treasuring our week long visit down the road. Rhett is now deciding that he doesn’t like sleeping at night so I was so thankful to have Lolli here to steal him away a couple of nights so we could get some uninterrupted sleep. It. felt. great. Watching the two of them together just melted my heart. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing Rhett with is Gigi and was excited to finally see him with Lolli for such an extended visit. Rhett’s face would just light up every time my mom talked to him – especially in the mornings. Those are the sweetest of times. Mom even read the book I’ve been following so she could mimic the things that were important to me. That meant so much to me as a new mother. I’m open to advice as well and Lolli had a few pointers. She also cooked, cleaned, rocked, swayed, changed diaper and diaper, washed passies and bottles and even reorganized my kitchen cabinets and drawers! ahhh – what a great feeling! It’s the small things you know?  There were a couple of tears today before Lolli departed – she was sad to leave us both and we were sad to see her go. Three weeks and counting until we visit them in Dallas. My dad hasn’t seen Rhett since Christmas so I know he will be oh so excited for us to arrive! I snapped this photo before mom left today and I’ll treasure it!
